The Sundials Exclusive team is particularly proud of their engraved NIGHT SKY CONCEPT as depicted in the 'Nelson Mandela Night Sky' sundial which features the southern hemisphere night sky viewed from Robben Island off the southern
tip of Africa on the eve of Nelson Mandela's release to freedom on 11th February 1990.

FOR YOUR OWN PERSONALISING, SELECT A MEANINGFUL DATE AND PLACE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD AND THE NIGHT SKY AS SEEN ON YOUR SELECTED DATE FROM THAT VIEWPOINT WILL BE ENGRAVED INTO THE CENTRE OF THE DIAL;
this design and concept makes the perfect gift, especially for weddings and other anniversaries.

Proud South Africans often refer fondly to their first black president, Mr Nelson Mandela, as 'Madiba¹ which is his Xhosa clan name. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 after his release from prison in 1990 and shortly before the first democratic elections in April 1994 when he became president. Mr Mandela spent 30 years in a jail on Robben Island after he was sentenced to life imprisonment for his long and hard campaigning against apartheid. Robben Island is a small island 12 kilometres off the South African Mother City of Cape Town.
